All entrepreneurs will experience stress and negativity on occassion, but not appropriately managing these feelings will increase your odds of being overwhelmed by stress and discouragement. On the other hand, learning to overcome negativity will empower you to keep moving forward and to achieve success. You will enjoy enhanced profitability and an improved state of emotional wellbeing. Managing your emotions won't always be easy, but you will improve with practice. Some simple ways to overcome both internal and external negativity follow.

Meditation is a great first step when you want to reduce stress and overcome negativity. An effective meditation routine will enable you to relax so that you can remain focused on your desired outcome. Meditation involves sitting down in a peaceful location, cutting off distractions, maintaining a straight back and clearing your mind. As you meditate, you must take several deep breaths (using your belly instead of your chest) and consciously release the tension in your muscles. Then simply focus on the sound of your breath without trying to control your breathing. Meditating for at least 10 minutes each day will give you good results, but the real benefits will be experienced over the long run. When meditation becomes part of your daily routine, you will likely experience stress reduction, naturally lower blood presure, and improved concentration.

If you notice that you have become stuck in a negative mindset, then exercising can help you relax and overcome negative thoughts. If you are already in excellent physical condition, going jogging will often enable you to experience decreased stress immediately, but rather than only exercising when you feel stressed or overwhelmed, it's important to work out on a regular basis. If jogging is not for you, try to get at least 30 minutes of walking, yoga or any other exercise in per day. Walking is one of the best low-impact exercises you can do and does not require any special clothing or gear. Try simply walking around your own neighborhood before or after work each day. Increase your pace over time. Additionally, you can break up your workout into 10-minute intervals throughout the day. Whatever you choose, it's vital you set an exercise routine that you can maintain.

Set Goals
When you become consumed by negative thoughts, it's important to keep your goals at the front of your mind so that you don't feel tempted to give up. Although you cannot control your emotions, you can control the thoughts on which you focus. Writing your goals down and reading them each day can help you keep negative thoughts at bay. Be sure to set a deadline for reaching each goal to help motivate you. Recruiting a willing friend to help you stay motivated and focused on what's important is another great option.

Find a Mentor
Unfortunately, you may experience negative comments from external sources such as friends, family members or coworkers. It is best to handle this by finding a mentor that has already built a successful business and can help to guide you. Try finding a mentor through resources such as SCORE.org or MicroMentor.org to get the positive business advice you need to keep your business moving forward. To preserve your sanity, avoid having conversations about your business with individuals that are stuck in a negative mode.

Entrepreneurship is not always fun, easy, or simple, but it's vital you learn to stay focused on the positive aspects of your journey so that you can continue pushing forward toward your goals. Otherwise, you will likely be overcome with feelings of hopelessness; surrendering to these feelings will prevent you from running a successful and profitable business. Avoiding a negative mindset requires you to exercise regularly, meditate each day, keep your goals in sight and find helpful mentors.
